1. Males tend to develop symptoms of schizophrenia first between the ages of 15 and 25 years old, while women tend to develop it around 18 to 30 years old which is what the graph above shows.
2. Schizophrenia is twice as common as alzheimer's.
3. Treatment success for schizophrenia is about 60 percent, compared to for example heart patients which is only about 41-52 percent.
4. Some people dealing with schizophrenia experiencing something called "thought blocking" in which the person stops talking right in the middle of a thought. Often times they say it felt like someone took the thought out of their head.
5. Schizophrenia originates from the greek translation schizo meaning split and phrene meaning mind. It translates roughly to splitting of the mind.
6. 40 to 60 percent of people with schizophrenia have attempted suicide at least once.
7. If an identical twin had schizophrenia then the other twin has a 50% chance of getting schizophrenia.
8. The oldest known description resembling schizophrenia dates back to Egypt in 1550 BC.
9. Schizophrenia at one point was more diagnosed to people of color, however this was due to cultural bias.
10. 20% of the population of homeless people are schizophrenic.
