Does Cannabis Cause Schizophrenia?
In the past few years, there has been a big debate about whether cannabis causes schizophrenia or not. One side believes that cannabis does not cause schizophrenia but instead may act as a precipitating event. The video below “The Culture High – Schizophrenia” says that a precipitating event is something traumatic like a car crash that causes the symptoms of schizophrenia to become pronounced. They suggest that a bad trip from cannabis can act as a precipitating event in schizophrenia. This means that cannabis does not cause schizophrenia but can have a little part in. The other side of this debate is that cannabis does cause schizophrenia and other psychosis. They claim that the highest risk is among people who frequently use cannabis. In our opinion, we agree with the video in that it is most likely a precipitating event. Whichever side you fall on, this debate is one that is still being researched and new information is being found all the time. Check out the video and links below for a little more information!

ReplyDeleteAlthough it does not cause it, it can certainly trigger some people who have it right? How can we find out if cannabis use can trigger schizophrenia?
ReplyDeleteFrom mine and my friends experience with cannabis, we've never seen things or had delusions while high so, what do you mean by a "bad trip"?
